The Riverton Silverwolves captured a key South Conference win on Thursday with an upset win over the Bingham Miners by the score of 6-3 in a classic game.
The scoring began at the 22:45 mark with Bingham Midfielder Kiera Heiden scored on a fast break goal to give Bingham and early lead. Riverton answered a minute later when Kierra Israelson found the back of the net on a free position attempt to tie the score at 1. Twelve minutes of hard, physical lacrosse ensued with Riverton controlling most of the possession due to tough Riverton rides, forcing turnovers and giving the Silverwolves the ball. Israelson scored at the 9:19 mark on another free position attempt. Another 5 minutes passed with back and forth play until Israelson scored at the 4:58 mark to give Riverton a 3-1 lead. Alicia Jones scored for Bingham with 53 seconds left in the half to make the score 3-2 at halftime for Riverton.

Riverton had 11 shots in the first half with Bingham Goalie Kelly Fitzgerald saving 6. Bingham had 4 shots with Riverton Goalie Mikala Anderson recording 1 save.
The second half saw more physical play and great, long possessions. Shania Fuller scored for the Silverwolves on a quick-stick shot on a nice feed from Israelson at the 14:21 mark. Three minutes later, Paige Rutledge scored for Riverton on a free position attempt after being fouled while driving to the cage. Rachel Quigley scored a goal for Bingham with 10:30 left in the game, giving the Miners a little bit of hope. Heiden scored next for the Miners but the goal was taken away due to a crease violation. Nikki Thomas put Riverton up 6-3 at the 5:09 mark which would prove to be final goal for both teams.
“Our girls don’t care about W-L records or rankings when we play Bingham,” said Riverton Head Coach David Oka. “In league or fall play, its always a dog fight in this rivalry. Bingham has gotten the best of us in the past two years so they feel good to get a win today. We concentrated on transitional defense and driving aggressively to the cage and it worked for us. They worked extremely hard in preparing for and executing the win today so its a good way go in to our last game with Juan Diego. Hats off to Kierra Israelson for a phenomenal game. I believe she is one of the league’s elite players.”
Riverton had 8 shots in the second half compared to 6 for Bingham. Fitzgerald recorded 4 saves for a total of 10 while Anderson had 5 saves in the second half for a total of 6.
One of the keys to victory for Riverton was Morgan Frampton winning 7 of 11 draws.
Alta currently sits at the top of the South Conference with a 5-0 record.
