Riverton Hosts Hillcrest Knights (ID), Claims Victory

In their inaugural season, the Knights at Hillcrest traveled from Ammon, ID to take on the Riverton Silverwolves Saturday. Riverton began with a quick lead, but early in the second, Hillcrest came back within one point. Riverton then went on an eight-point run over the second and third quarters to pull away. In the end, the Silverwolves claimed a 16 to 5 win over the Knights.
Riverton opened the game with a three-point lead. Before the first was over, Hillcrest scored their first. As the second quarter opened, the Knights took control of the opening face-off and scored immediately. Down by just one, the Knights were looking pretty good.
Riverton was not about to lose their lead. After allowing a quick goal from Hillcrest, they answered back with three quick ones of their own and five more through the beginning of the third quarter. After halftime the Knights clearly had regrouped, stepping up both their offense and their defense. Although they tied Riverton for points in the third, this only slowed Riverton’s progress. The Silverwolves scored three points in the final quarter, while keeping the Knights from scoring. Riverton came out on top with a 16-5 win.
“The great thing that we saw was that we worked the ball around,” said Riverton Head Coach Kyle Hardy, “A good majority of our goals came from assists.” The Silverwolves tallied ten assists as a team. Hardy added, “Defensively, we had some good ground balls.”
Riverton’s star player this game was midfielder Ian Elson — Elson raked in seven goals and two assists. Attackman Alexander Matheson also stood out for the Silverwolves with two goals and three assists.
This win put Riverton at a 7-5 record for the season. In speaking of the team’s outlook for the remainder of the season, Coach Hardy stated, “The goal is to just get better every day, every game. Incremental changes have led us to where we are now.” Riverton is scheduled to compete next at Woods Cross on April 21.
