Skyline Defeats Park City in D-I Championship Game

2013-Anna-Ferreira-SkylinePark City and Skyline went head to head in the D-I State Championship at Copper Hills High School. These two teams met earlier with Skyline winning by one. Park City came in hoping to get revenge for their earlier loss.
The game started with Skyline controlling the first draw, transitioning down the field and only to have their first shot saved by Ashley Peabody. Park City was able to quickly get the ball down the field and capitalize on their first shot. The Miners weren’t done, they quickly followed up with a goal by Mckenna Tychsen to get Park City up by two early. Skyline was able to answer on a nice feed by Miklain Huntsman to Annie Glenn to get the Eagles within one. Skyline went on a three goal run that was finally brought to an end by a goal from Nicole Kirkam that would bring the score 4-3 in favor of Skyline. Skyline responded with a goal by Annie Glenn. Anna Ferreira was able to follow it up to get the Eagles up 6-3. On the following possession, Peabody  had a nice save to keep Skyline from getting too far away and Caitlin Jarratt was able to capitalize to bring the halftime score 6-4.
Skyline scored first and second to get them up 8-4. Park City wasn’t willing to give up on their second straight trip to the championship game and went on a three goal run to bring them within one. Annie Glenn sliced to the goal and buried one to give the Eagles a little breathing room. Alex Miele was able to respond to keep the Miners in the game. Skylines Zoe Aldous was able to get a rebound goal to get them back up by two. After a strong stand by the Skyline defense, Park City was finally able to get an opening and Maddie Haynes was able to put it in. This would prove to be the last goal of the game as Skyline controlled the draw and stalled out the remaining few minutes en route to a 10-9 win for the Championship.
“It feels awesome, I’m so proud of these girls,” said Skyline Head Coach Elise Caffee. “We worked hard everyday and it paid off. We knew Park City would be a tough opponent. We fixed a few things that we learned over the season and we were ready for it. Every single girl on the team stepped up at key moments of the game.”
Skyline was lead by Claire Andrues with two goals and Anna Ferreira with two goals, Park City was lead by McKenna Tychsen with 3 goals. Park City had 11 saves while Skyline had 9. Skyline controlled 11 of 21 draws and Park City controlled 10 of 21 saves.
