The Stories That Matter Most To The Utah Lacrosse Community

The Face-off: Week 1 Picks – Haslam v. Nelson

2016-Davis-Bonneville-ULN-14The Face-off (formerly known as ULN Staff Picks) is back and in a slightly different format. We used to ask a few staff members to submit their picks each week, but The Face-off will now feature Team Haslam v. Team Nelson. Tim Haslam and Steve Nelson will pick a person in the lacrosse community to pick for their team. This week will feature the captains squaring off.
Boys
Davis v. Fremont
SN: I think that both of these squads are the real deal, and this will be one of the best games of the season. Davis’ offense gives them the edge, 13-12.
TH: Both teams feature a 4-2 record and have Syracuse (W) and Corner Canyon (L) in common. I think the Darts will have the slight advantage, 9-8.
Judge v. Bingham
SN: Bingham’s better than their record indicates, 4 of their 6 games have been against top-10 teams. That said, Judge seems to have a higher ceiling this season; Bulldogs win 11-8.
TH: Bingham will look to get back into winning ways, but it won’t be this day. Bulldogs win 12-6.
Girls
Herriman v. Riverton
SN: Two undefeated teams that have shown flashes of brilliance this season. I’m inclined to give Herriman the edge as they’ve already been tested in a tough game and won, versus Lone Peak, while this will be Riverton’s second tough game in a single week; Mustangs 14-12.
TH: What a way to start the week! The Mustangs are a little better suited for a tough game at this point in the season. Herriman wins 10-8.
Mountain Crest v. Davis
SN: Mountain Crest is getting better, but they need more time to catch up to Davis; Davis wins 10-6.
TH: It’s going to be tough sledding for the Mustangs. Should be a comfortable win for the Darts, 15-5.
College
BYU @ Colorado – Mens
SN: I’m going to go with my heart on this one and say BYU plays up to their potential for four quarters, beating CU 10-8.
TH: Both teams lost to Grand Canyon and both lost in OT to Chapman. I think confidence and location are going to play a huge factor in this game. BYU is coming off a 12-4 trouncing by Grand Canyon. Colorado is coming off two 12+ goal different wins (Utah State and UVU). Last time the Cougars bested the Buffs in Boulder? 2008. Colorado gets the win, 9-8.
Let’s hear it lax fans. Who do you see winning this week?
