Top-Ranked Griffins To Be Tested In Chapel Hill

SALT LAKE CITY – The top-ranked Westminster College women’s lacrosse team hits the road this weekend to play four games in a tournament in Chapel Hill, N.C. Westminster will play No. 9 Oakland (Mich.) on Friday at 2 p.m.  The Griffins then play No. 11 Loyola (Md.), No. 3 Towson (Md.) and James Madison on Saturday. Westminster will play at 6 a.m., 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. (MST) on Saturday.

Westminster enters play this weekend with a 10-1 overall record and at 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Women’s Lacrosse League. They have won four straight games overall and went 3-0 at the Salt Lake Classic last weekend. The Griffins have gone 5-0 away from home this season with four wins coming on a neutral field.
The Griffins have outscored the opposition 192-76 this season and have scored at least 15 goals in all 10 victories. They are averaging 17.5 goals per game while attempting 29.5 shots per outing. The team has recorded 93 assists and is 16-of-39 in free position opportunities.
Chelsea Farrell leads four Griffins with over 30 points this season with 48. Farrell is second on the team in goals with 32 and her 16 assists are tied for the team lead. Sage Johnson has recorded 40 points behind 24 goals and 16 assists. Kaicee Beal has scored a team-best 33 goals and Maggie HerrNeckar has picked up 24 goals.
Farrell also leads the Griffins with 39 ground balls and 16 draw controls. HerrNeckar has collected 25 ground balls while Johnson and Carson Chambers have gathered 18 GBs. Makenzie Hekking is allowing 6.91 goals per game while making 46 saves with a 37.7% save percentage.
