American Fork 8, Waterford 7  OT
The Cavemen headed to Sandy to take on the Ravens on a windy and cold Tuesday afternoon. American Fork took an early lead but Waterford kept it close as they capitalized on Cavemen miscues. The Cavemen led 4-2 at half with goals from junior middies Kimball Matheny and Jake Thacker with two more from sophomore Jacob McNall. Talbot Child led the Ravens scoring with two first half goals.
Waterford took charge in the 3rd quarter with 3 goals including another from Child and two more from David Meabon. AF’s Ridge Hallock scored an empty-netter to knot the score at 5 heading into the final quarter.  Jake Thacker scored his second goal of the game early in the 4th rebounding his own miss to put the Cavemen up 6-5, but the Ravens answered with two goals of their own to take the lead at 7-6 with just over 7 minutes to play. AF attackman Marshall Card tied the game with just under 3 minutes to go and regulation ended with the teams tied at 7.  The Cavemen dominated possession in extra time and Jake Thacker completed the hat trick with the game winner.
AF Head Coach Jesse Card noted following the game that “Waterford made some adjustments in their clearing game and then controlled the ball pretty well offensively. They had a couple of shooters that created issues for our defense, but we were able to adjust. They’re a very well coached team.”  American Fork was strong with the duo of Kimball Matheny and Alton Taylor combining to win 13 of 19 faceoffs and Max Sturgill was solid with 15 saves. Matheny led the Cavemen with 13 ground balls.
The Cavemen play at Highland on Friday before taking a week off for Spring Break.
