BYU Women’s Lacrosse to play in Santa Barbara Shootout
The BYU women’s lacrosse team will join the University of Utah and Utah State University at the Santa Barbara Shootout in Santa Barbara, California.
BYU opens play Friday against the University of Santa Barbara at 12:00 p.m. PST, followed by the University of Connecticut’s club team at 4:00 p.m. PST.
BYU’s first game Saturday against Grand Canyon University will be streamed live at polo.tv at 8:00 a.m. PST. The Cougars will finish play versus the University of Virginia’s club at 2:00 p.m. PST.
Utah Men’s Lacrosse victorious versus Cal Poly
The University of Utah Men’s Lacrosse team opened their regular season against Cal Poly. Utah controlled the game early, and left with a 9-3 win over the No. 10 ranked Mustangs.
Utah head coach Brian Holman praised his players in a press release. ““Aaron [Fjeldsted] and Gus [Colonna] were really field generals for us tonight,” said Holman. “[Daniel Costa] made all the saves he was supposed to make and a few that were really great. He cleared the ball well for us too which we like.”
Utah takes on Arizona next on Feb.17 at 2:30 p.m. PST.

BYU announces 2018 captains
The BYU men’s lacrosse team recently announced their 2018 captains. Zach Labrum (Libertyville High School – Libertyville, IL), Tanner Johnson (Chaska High School – Chaska, MN), Arty Walters (Alta High School – Draper, UT) and Jake Hougaard (Timpanogos High School – Orem, UT) will lead the Cougars this season in what looks to be a promising year for BYU.
BYU head coach Matt Schneck said in a press release, “I am very happy that Zach, Tanner, Arty & Jake will be representing our team as captains this year,” said BYU Head Coach Matt Schneck. “Since their selection, they have helped create a tremendous team culture and have provided additional “behind the scenes” leadership that is meaningful to both their teammates and the coaching staff. I have no doubts that they will be successful in their efforts both on and off the field this year.”

Santa Barbara Shootout is revived after disastrous 2017
BYU head coach Nikki Dabrowski called him after last year’s tournament to express their support and said they would be back. This gesture, combined with support from other teams, helped Ramsey put the tournament back together in 2018.
