ULN Staff Game Picks: Week 2

Each week of the high school season we will pick the winners a handful of random games that week. You can join along as well by leaving a comment with your picks. This week features four great games. We break down the Olympus @ Jordan girls game, Mountain Crest @ Syracuse boys game, BYU @ Arizona State MCLA game and finally Judge @ Juan Diego boys in their annual St. Patrick’s Day showdown. Sean was the winner last week picking 3 of 4 games correctly. Both Scott and myself went 2-2.
Girls: Olympus @ Jordan – Monday, March 11
Scott Robinson: Jordan wins 12-4
Olympus beat American fork 11-3 last week. That means one of two things, either American Fork is good or Olympus is struggling. Jordan had a strong showing last week with a win over a solid Brighton team. Jordan proves too much to handle and wins.
Sean Zuckerman: Olympus wins 11-8
Jordan had a big win over Brighton at home last week. Olympus however is off to a great start with two wins on the road which I believe will carry over.
Tim Haslam: Jordan wins 14-8
Jordan will be riding high off their win over Brighton and under new Head Coach Katie Lock. The Beetdiggers win in a balanced game.
Boys: Mountain Crest @ Syracuse – Wednesday, March 13
Scott Robinson: Mountain Crest wins 10-8
Mountain Crest looks to rebound after a tough loss to Alta. Look for the Mustangs to come out swinging, beating Syracuse.
Sean Zuckerman: Mountain Crest wins 13-5
Ranked second in the pre-season Mountain Crest has lost it’s first two games, both to D-I opponents. Look for them to bounce back against a Syracuse team in their first game of the season.
Tim Haslam: Syracuse wins 14-7
The Titans are returning nearly their entire squad from last year. With an added year of experience under their belt, I see them pulling out the victory in front of the home fans.
MCLA: No. 2 BYU @ No. 5 ASU – Saturday, March 16
Scott Robinson: BYU wins 11-9
BYU is on a roll and will ride the momentum into Arizona.
Sean Zuckerman: BYU wins 14-11
With both teams ranked in the MCLA Top 5 it’s going to be something like a playoff atmosphere. Because ASU’s only loss so far this season came at home, and the Cougars are 4-0 all time against the Sun Devils, I have to go with BYU.
Tim Haslam: BYU wins 16-13
We don’t normally pick away games, but we couldn’t resist looking into this match-up. The common opponent between the two is Chapman who BYU beat 11-8 and ASU lost to 8-7. The Cougars will test their conditioning having played a pesky Grand Canyon squad the night before. If anyone can do it though, it’s BYU.
Boys: Judge @ Juan Diego – Sunday, March 17
Scott Robinson: Juan Diego wins 12-7
Juan Diego is primed for another run at a State Championship. The are strong all over and I think they top the Bulldogs in great game.
Sean Zuckerman: Juan Diego wins 16-15
Two storied programs in a St. Patrick’s Day tradition. I expect this game to be high scoring and exciting. With any luck it will go down to the wire, but I’m taking to beat Juan Diego.
Tim Haslam: Juan Diego wins 14-10
Last years version of this game went to Juan Diego with a 8-3 win. Judge played well on Saturday against Bountiful but won’t be able to overcome the tough Soaring Eagle attack.

    1. I wonder if Bishop Wester is on board with that? It is St. Patrick’s Day though so all are forgiven!

  1. The people making these predictions obviously do not have a solid foundation of knowledge of this years teams. Jordan is going through a rebuilding phase, as is Brighton (hence the bad performance by both teams last week). Olympus is solid, young, and well coached. I predicted a Olympus blowout. You should realistically only have people predict games they have knowledge on.

    1. There’s the Pierce we know and love! It’s hard to find anyone in this state who is in the loop with girls, boys and college let alone having them pick games. Are you on board for next week?
