Under The Helmet: Orem LSM Nick Bair

Tribal WestThis edition of Under the Helmet is brought to you by Tribal West Lacrosse. We talked with Orem LSM Nick Bair who goes to Mountain View High School but plays with the Tigers. Bair is a Junior whose favorite lacrosse memory happened this season when he scored a goal: “It happened like this: I scooped up a ground ball coming down for the fast break. One of my teammates was open on the side of the crease and I passed it to him, the ball bounced off the shaft of the D-pole in front of me into the goal!”
Utah Lacrosse News: When/Where/Why did you first start playing lacrosse?
Nick Bair: I started watching older neighborhood boys play high school lacrosse. In 5th grade, I started play fall ball while still playing baseball in the spring. By 7th grade, I was playing lacrosse in the fall and in the spring because lacrosse was so much batter than baseball.
ULN: What is your current stick of choice?
NB: Anything orange, but really I just want a light, strong shaft with a head that won’t break. Right now my shaft is Epoch Dragonfly and the head is a Brine Clutch Elite. This is my third head this season.
Nick BairULN: What is your favorite pre-game ritual?
NB: I like to visualize what I am going to work on during the game.
ULN: Besides your own home field, what is your favorite field to play lacrosse on?
NB: Any nice turf.
ULN: How/Why did you pick your jersey number?
NB: I am number 11.  I picked it when I was little because #11 is twice as good as #1.
ULN: What Hollywood star would play you in a movie about your life?
NB: Kunal Nayyar (Dr. Rajesh Koothrappali from Big Bang Theory)
ULN: What is your favorite, can’t miss TV show at the moment?
NB: How I Met Your Mother
ULN: What movie could you watch 1,000 times and not get sick of it?
NB: The original Star Wars trilogy
ULN: If you could only take 3 items with you to a deserted island for the rest of your life, what items would they be and why?
NB: Fishing Pole (I like to fish and I would use it to catch and eat my food), Satellite TV (because I’d want something to do in the evening), Air conditioned hut (gotta keep cool)
ULN: Best Beach Spot? Hawaii, California or Mexico?
NB: Hawaii — the beaches are so nice there.
ULN: What is your favorite fast food?
NB: Wendy’s Spicy Asiago Ranch Chicken Club
ULN: What are your post high school plans?
NB: College somewhere, Play lacrosse on a college team, Serve an LDS mission
ULN: When not playing lacrosse, what are you doing in your free time?
NB: Homework. Lots and Lots of homework.
ULN: Coke or Pepsi?
NB: Mellow Yellow
ULN: M&M’s or Skittles?
NB: Hi-Chews
ULN: Brine, STX, Warrior, Maverik, or another brand?
NB: Mostly Brine right now, but I’ve used every brand.
ULN: Steak or lobster?
NB: Why can’t I have both?
ULN: Favorite pizza place?
NB: Ray’s Pizza in Times Square, NY
ULN: What is the first thing you would do if you win the Championship this year? Who would be the first person you would call or text?
NB: Celebrate with the team. If my Dad is traveling for work, I’d call him.
