The Mamaci club team recently returned from the Bay Area Bonanza weekend tournament in California. The club took two teams, the Mamaci Elite and Mamaci Black who both played well all weekend.
“The great thing about this tournament was that the brackets were very even,” said Mamaci Black Head Coach Chad Staro. “Both the Elite and Black squads had a really competitive tournament.”
The Elite team started the tournament with a 11-6 loss at the hands of the Bear Lax 13 team. Elite battled hard with Pacific Lax Navy for a 6-6 tie and finished the day with a 10-7 comeback win over Team OC. The team was down by 3 goals early on but game back to tie the game at 4 at halftime. OC scored on a free position goal but Mamaci answered right back with a free position goal of their own. A great transition play from Morgan Judd to Kira Heiden. On Sunday, the Elite team tied Bay Wave 5-5 and beat West Coast Starz 12-6 before tying Pacific Falcons White 7-7.
“Katie Adams really stepped up, taking control of the game,” said Staro. “Annie Glenn did a phenomenal job on draw controls.”

The Black squad tied Bear Lax 15 Green at 6, lost to Bear Lax 16 Blue 9-2 and beat Bear Lax 17 8-5. On Sunday, Black lost to Tenacity Texas 13-1 and Bear Lax 16 Green in a close game with a final score of 9-8.
“Alissa Brown had a really outstanding tournament in net for us,” said Staro. “Whether it was starting the game or coming in to finish the games in the second half.”
Up next for the Mamaci Elite and Black teams will be the Sandstorm Tournament in Palm Springs over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in January.
