Utah Valley University Starts Women's Lacrosse Team

The Fall brings many new things to life such as the beginning of school, College Football and Fall lacrosse to name a few. Occasionally the fall brings a few surprises and this year it did just that.
Just this week, Utah Valley University announced they will be forming a women’s lacrosse team in hopes of competing in the Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates. The driving force is Kyrie Foster who has experience starting lacrosse teams from the ground up. Foster is a freshman who hails from Winter Haven, Florida where she helped find players and captained the local girls high school team.
“I found out that UVU didn’t have a team so I contacted Niki Harding at the ULA,” said Foster. “She connected me with some girls that had also been interested in finding someone to start a team with, and since then, I’ve contacted all I could to find us a coach and possibly more players.”

“The most important thing we are doing now is trying to identify players who want to play for UVU,” said Robinson. “UVU has 33,000 students and is the largest university in the state. We are confident that there are hundreds of students who have played lacrosse on campus, that would love to pick up a stick again. We are also looking for new players, that we can teach.”
The team is hoping to raise sufficient funds to participate in the WCLA, joining the Rocky Mountain Women’s Lacrosse League right away.
“The biggest hurdle that we have in starting a college team is cost,” said Robinson. “We are working hard at trying to make women’s lacrosse as UVU affordable, so we can attract more women to play.”
Robinson knows how to start a lacrosse program from the ground up as well after founding and coaching the Herriman girls team last season, recruiting 80 girls to come play at every age group.
“In one year, we became one of the largest lacrosse organization in the state,” said Robinson. “We hope to duplicate that at UVU.”
