Utahns Abroad: McGill Wins CUFLA Championship

McGill Redmen Champions
Gutman (L of #25), Frost #25, Alec Roussos (R of #25)
Park City alumni Rufus Frost, Jake Gutman and Alec Roussos helped the McGill Redmen win the 2012 Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association Championship last weekend. The Redmen beat Western Ontario 7-6 in Double Overtime.
“It felt incredible to finally win a championship in anything,” said Frost. “In high school, we always had a very solid team in Park City, but we were never ever to seal the deal. We played some of the greatest games of lacrosse last year, but always seemed to let the victory just slip away (Bingham, Jordan, Brighton, Juan Diego). Even reaching the championship game as a sophomore and falling just short left an awful taste in my mouth. Finally becoming a champion, especially at a national level, is an unbelievable feeling I had never experienced before.  For my first collegiate lacrosse season, it was an incredible experience.”
Frost, Gutman and Roussos joined the Redmen this fall as Freshmen after committing last Spring.
“My advice for kids in Utah looking to play college would be to get into recruiting early,” said Frost. “Find schools your even slightly interested in and and get in contact with the coach. Then, you have options. Don’t be afraid. Even if the school seems out of reach from an admission standpoint, go for it.  Not only can lacrosse assist you in the application process, but being from Utah (if you’re looking out of state) already makes you a more appealing applicant.”
