Utes & East Meets West combine to create "Super Camp" this Summer

EMW_redEast Meets West lacrosse Academy and University of Utah Men’s Lacrosse program have joined forces to create a “super camp” experience that is unlike anything else in the Western United States.
For the last 16 years, East Meets West Director, Drew Searl, has put on an annual summer camp in Salt Lake City that is widely regarded as one of the best camps not only locally, but in the Rocky Mountain Region thanks to a coaching staff that includes multiple current and former MLL players and coaches.
In addition, the University of Utah began offering an overnight option for their multi-day summer camp last summer, something that the East Meets West Camp has not been able to offer.   “Not being able to offer an overnight option made it tough for kids who weren’t living near Salt Lake to come to camp,” said Searl, a former NCAA D1 midfielder at Syracuse University.  “The main reason I started East Meets West was to bring an elite coaching staff to places where players don’t always have access to that level of coaching so I always wished those kids could participate.  This is really what got [Coach Kladis] and I talking about combining the camps and the more we talked about it, the more it made perfect sense.  Now players living in places like Boise, Logan, and St. George can easily come have a great camp experience.”

camp_4According to Utah Head Coach, Rick Kladis, “Drew and I have the same goals with our camps, so running separate camps in the same area and at almost the exact same time just didn’t make sense.  I’ve coached at dozens of different camps around and there’s just no comparison to Drew’s camp, players just seem to absorb coaching tips from pro players more than others.  I think our Utes camp offered a great experience on it’s own with our staff and all the great on-campus stuff, but why not make it so players can do both without having to pay for and attend 2 separate camps.  By combining them, we can offer a single camp that has the perks of both – kids can utilize our facilities by playing, eating, and staying overnight if they want and get an on-campus, collegiate-camp experience and on top of that can get the elite-level coaching from the East Meets West staff.  The value is off the charts.”

camp_3The camp is divided into a Youth Camp and a High School Camp who will play in separate field locations.  The Youth Camp will take place all at Stillwell Field on the University of Utah campus and campers will work all day with the Utes players and coaches as well as enjoy clinics and tips from the EMW Pros.  The Youth Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and campers will also have the opportunity to go swimming on campus and eat in the dining hall.
High School Campers can choose from a Day-Only, Extended-Day, or Overnight option.   The Day-Only camp will run much like the traditional East Meets West Camp format that will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m.   The “extended-day” camp will continue past 4 p.m. as these campers can enjoy some time on campus and get a feel for life at a major academic collegiate institution.  Campers can swim or even have the option of taking a tour of campus and the Utes Lacrosse facilities while on campus.  The day finished up with dinner on campus and then a night scrimmage session with the Utes Coaching Staff and players in the Utes Indoor Practice Facility.
Early Registration discount is available until 4/15 and space is limited (especially for overnight campers).  Click here to learn more and register online
