VINEYARD, UT — Utah Valley University Women’s Lacrosse team opened their regular season play by hosting Weber State Saturday, Feb. 17. UVU took a commanding 7-0 lead at the half and never looked back, beating the Wildcats 15-0.
“All-in-all, great effort,” said UVU Head Coach Al To’a. “I think they worked well together.”
UVU dominated the time of possession which allowed for a strong defensive performance by the UVU defense, particularly by Madi Bingham. “Maddie Bingham was shutting them down,” said To’a.
As equally as impressive was his team’s offensive performance. Attacker Alese Norton and midfielder Karli Bird helped lead the UVU attack. “Alese had a great game today. Karli as well,” said To’a. “Hats off to all of them.”
However, To’a was not satisfied. “It was the first game of the season so we’re still learning about each other,” said To’a. Some of the things he hopes to see his team improve on are the basics. “Passing, receiving, moving the ball, moving off the ball,” said To’a. “Easy things like that. We’ll work them out.”
To’a believes his team will only get better from here. “We’re expecting a lot of production,” To’a said. “If we continue to give effort and work hard, I think everything else will fall in line.
UVU will next play crosstown foe BYU on March 8.
