The Viewmont Vikings girls team traveled to Rose Park to take on the West Panthers in a great D-II match-up. Viewmont hoped to redeem themselves after a tough 12-2 loss to D-I defending champion Bingham. Much to the dismay of the Panthers, the Vikings did just that. From the first draw, Viewmont was in total control of the game. Senior midfielder Addie Acord scored the first goal and added two more before fellow senior midfielder Maddie Medeiros chimed in. The Panthers, looking to prevent a first half shutout, scored quickly after the ensuing draw. After a round of goals by a few more Vikings, Viewmont would go into halftime up 10-1.
The second half was much of the same. Viewmont scored early and kept the ball on their offensive end most of the half. They were unable to keep West off the board as they scored another hustle goal. With the score in Viewmont’s favor, 15-2 and time running out, West scored their last goal of the game as the buzzer went off to bring the score 15-3.
“It was nice to come out and get a strong win,” said Viewmont Head Coach Kendra Francis. “We are packed with talent on the team, the girls just needed a chance to show it and grow. Maddie had a great game, six goals I think she had. I have been waiting for her to have this kind of game. This is what she is capable of all the time.”
Viewmont’s next game with be against newly formed Roy while West prepares for Woods Cross on Monday.
