Viewmont Secures Home Field Advantage With Win Over Davis

Viewmont Girls LacrosseThe Davis Darts rolled into Viewmont territory with the hopes of knocking off the number one seeded Vikings in a heated divisional rivalry game. Viewmont needed a win to secure home field advantage through the playoffs and Davis needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Davis center, Hailee Prows, won the opening draw and immediately ran into a stiff Viewmont defense. The Darts turned the ball over quickly after settling the ball and the Vikings transitioned up the field which led to a Viewmont goal by attacker Amanda Hansen. Viewmont won the ensuing draw, took the ball down the field and Brittany Harris was able to give Viewmont an early two goal lead.
Davis was unable to to get a good shot on goal and Viking freshman, Lizz Triesch, notched two quick goals, giving the Vikings a four goal lead. The whole Viewmont squad pitched in with Madie Medeiros slotting four goals, Harris finishing the first half with two and Hannah Green adding one, giving the Vikings a 10-0 lead at halftime. Viewmont shot 76% in the first half and held the Darts to one shot on goal which was saved by senior goalie, Missy Christensen.
Davis won the first draw of the second half but was instantly stifled by a strong midfield defense. Viewmont’s, Addie Acord scored first to give the Vikings an eleven goal lead. Davis was determined to get on the board and Allyse Clegg found the back of the net. She was followed immediately by Sadie Hansen to bring the score, 11-2. Viewmont’s Hansen found the net next to get the Vikings back up by ten. The Viking defense was unmerciful as the Darts were once again unable to get any momentum. Acord scored two more times to bring the final score, 14-2 and solidify home field advantage for the Vikings.
“We really wanted to come out and perform today. Our seniors, in three years, have never lost a division game and we really wanted them to end on a high note,” said Viewmont Head Coach Kendra Francis.
Viewmont and Davis controlled 50% of the draws. Viewmont shot 66% for the game and held the Darts to four shots on goal.
Viewmont will wait until the start of the playoffs when they will take on the number four seed in the south region. Davis will look to rebound against Sky View on the third.
