SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women’s lacrosse team announced the schedule for the 2012 season today. Head coach Niki Harding announced that the 2012 team will play a total of 20 games during the year with nine of those being held at Dumke Field.
The season begins on February 17 and 18 at the Santa Barbara Shootout in California. This marks the third straight year the Griffins will travel to the tournament that features some of the top teams in the country. Westminster went 3-0 at the event last season and are 4-3 overall at the Shootout.
Westminster will then make a trip to Colorado Springs for games on March 2 against Air Force and Denver Univ. The home opener is slated for March 6 when the Griffins open RMWLL play against Weber State at Dumke Field. The Griffins then welcome Brigham Young to Dumke Field on March 9. In-State rival Utah Valley comes to Dumke for a league game on March 20.
The Griffins, along with the University of Utah, will play host to the Salt Lake Classic from March 23-25. Westminster will host five games on the 24th and two games on the 25th. The Griffins will play Wyoming, UNLV and Colorado Mines on the 24th. They also face Northern Colorado in a game on the 25th.
The next weekend the Griffins take a trip to Chapel Hill, N.C. to play four games on March 30-31. They begin the trip against Oakland (Mich.) the first night and then come back the next morning to play Loyola (Md.). That afternoon Westminster will play Towson (Md.) and then James Madison (Va.) to complete the trip.
A weekend in Colorado will follow the North Carolina trip. Westminster will play at Colorado Mesa on April 6 and have a tentatively scheduled game at Colorado State on April 7. They return to league play on April 10 with the annual match-up with rival Utah at Dumke Field. Senior Night is currently slated for April 13 when they Griffins host Utah State in the RMWLL finale.
The RMWLL Championship is slated for Dumke Field on April 21 with the winner receiving an automatic invite to the WCLA National Championships. The national tournament will take place from May 9-12 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
