Westminster Beats Idaho, 18-2, at Dumke Field

Westminster Griffins LacrosseSALT LAKE CITY – The 16th-ranked Westminster College men’s lacrosse team bounced-back from a tough loss on Thurs. with an 18-2 win over Idaho on Sunday afternoon at Dumke Field.
Westminster (5-2) scored the first seven goals of the game, including one from Josh Holland just 12 seconds into the action. The Griffins would lead 8-1 after the first quarter and 12-1 at intermission. After Patrick Tunison scored for Idaho (2-3) at the 4:04 mark of the third quarter to snap another seven-straight goals by the Griffins, Westminster would close with the final four goals of the afternoon.
The Griffins finished the day with a 43-25 edge in shot attempts and they put 24 of those attempts on goal. They dominated face-offs to a 17-8 advantage which helped Westminster claim 39 ground balls to just 20 from the Vandals. Westminster was 21-of-23 in clearing chances and went 1-of-4 in man-up opportunities.
Collin Madsen, Ethan Gosselin and Kevin Gee all scored three goals to lead the Griffins. Holland and Elias Fairman added two goals apiece. Kyle Postler had one goal and a team-best five assists to lead all players with six points. Madsen added two assists for five points.
Chris Burckle made three saves before being replaced by Ben Tourek early in the second quarter. Tourek finished with nine saves in 43 minutes. Jake Berard won 14-of-18 face-offs and picked up a team-high 10 ground balls. He also scored a goal and had one assist.
Tunison scored both goals for the Vandals with Trystan Chambers picking up an assist. Craig Patrick made six saves in cage for Idaho.
The Griffins will now travel to Provo, Utah on Sat. for a 5 p.m. MDT game at Brigham Young. The game will be played at North Field on the BYU campus and is the first RMLC game of the year for the Griffins.
