Westminster Griffins Full House Face Off Preview

2012 Full House Face OffThe No. 6 Westminster Griffins are heading to Las Vegas this weekend to the annual Full House Face Off. We caught up with Westminster Head Coach Mason Goodhand, Senior Midfielder and Captain Brett Bird, Sophomore Goalie and Captain Chris Burckle and Sophomore Attackmen Matt Hearn to get a feel of how the team is doing heading into the opening weekend.

The 3rd Annual Full House Face-Off Lacrosse Tournament will be played at Russell Road Sports Complex in Henderson Nevada over Presidents weekend. This event will include eight Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division II, (MCLA-DII), programs from five different regional Conferences. These teams will play in a total of eleven contests beginning at 4:00 PM, Friday thru 2:30 PM Sunday afternoon.
Westminster College, of Salt Lake City, Utah is the defending Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference (RMLC) champs and earned the highest preseason ranking in the 2012 FHFO field. The Griffins enter the year ranked #6 in the January 24th MCLA Preseason Rankings.
The other participating teams in the 2012 FHFO event include:

  • #10, Western Oregon University Wolves from Monmouth, OR., 2011 PNCLL D-II champions
  • #14 Cal State Fullerton Titans form Fullerton CA. 2011 SLC D-II champions
  • #16 Utah Valley University Wolverines, Orem UT. (RMLC)
  • #17 Sam Houston State University Bearkats of Huntsville, TX., 2011 LSA D-II champions
  • Western Washington Vikings, Bellingham, WA. (PNCLL)
  • Univ. of California Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, (WCLL)
  • Grand Canyon University, Phoenix AZ, (SLC- New MCLA program)

The action starts at 4:00 PM Friday night:

  • 4:00 – Western Washington vs.#16 Utah Valley University
  • 5:00 – #6 Westminster College vs.#17 Sam Houston State University
  • 6:30 – #14 Cal State Fullerton vs. #10 Western Oregon.

Saturday the first game faces off at noon. The schedule includes:

  • Noon -#17 Sam Houston State vs. UC Santa Cruz
  • 12:30 – Grand Canyon University vs. Western Washington
  • 2:30 – #10 Western Oregon vs.#6 Westminster College
  • 3:00- Utah Valley vs.#14 Cal State Fullerton
  • 5:00 – UC Santa Cruz vs. Western Washington.

Sunday’s closing round games will start at 10:00 AM.

  • 10:00 – #6 Westminster College vs. UC Santa Cruz
  • 10:00 – Western Washington vs. #17 Sam Houston State
  • 12:30 – #10 Western Oregon vs. Grand Canyon University.
  • 12:30-1:30  LV HS All-Star Showcase

All games will be played at the Russell Road Sports Complex at 5901 E Russell Road in Henderson, NV. Admission is free to these events.
