Westminster Men Down CSU-Pueblo, 24-2

image005-2GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Westminster men’s lacrosse team picked up a second-straight win by defeating Colorado State-Pueblo, 24-2, on Saturday afternoon at Walker Field.
For the second straight game, Westminster (5-3) held its opponent scoreless in the first half as they scored the first 15 goals of the afternoon. They put eight goals on the board in the first quarter with Elias Fairman and Kyle Postler scoring two apiece in the frame.
The Griffins took 59 shots in the game with 28 of them on cage. They got goals from 11 different players with eight scoring multiple goals. Westminster totaled 15 assists in the game and they won 17-of-29 faceoffs with a 36-18 edge in ground balls. They were also successful in 19-of-19 clearing attempts.
Thomas Sarjeant scored a team-high five goals for the Griffins and he tallied two assists for seven points. Fairman and Pace Cranney finished with three goals apiece and Cranney took a team-best eight shots.
Ryan Coffelt was 8-of-13 in faceoff attempts with eight ground balls. Jake Berard was 8-of-12 in his faceoff attempts and he claimed five ground balls. Spencer Huso led the team with two caused turnovers.
All three goals saw time in cage for the Griffins. Erik Gronseth earned the win by making four saves. Josh Nett also made four saves while allowing both goals. Conner McFarlane played the fourth quarter and made six stops.
Hunter Thompson had one goal and one assist for CSU-Pueblo. Jamil Modafarril had the other goals of the ThunderWolves who fall to 0-10 on the season.
The Griffins will now return home for three-straight conference games. They begin the stretch on Thursday against Colorado at 4 p.m. (MT) at Dumke Field. Ticket for all home games are available now at
