Westminster: No. 11 Westminster Defeats No. 14 Northern Colorado, 11-6

SALT LAKE CITY — The 11th-ranked Westminster men’s lacrosse team snapped a three-game losing streak with an 11-6 win over No. 14 Northern Colorado on Wednesday on Dumke Field.
Westminster improves to 4-4 on the year and snap a streak of three straight losses to a ranked opponent.  Northern Colorado drops to 2-1.
Playing in a constant rain throughout the game, Westminster took advantage of the home field during the second and third quarters.  With the game tied at 3-3, the Griffins went on a eight goal run during the second and third quarters.  It started with an Andrew Gordon goal at the 8:13 mark of the second quarter to make the score 4-3 for Westminster.  Jake Arthur would add a goal with the man advantage to make it 5-3 with 1:14 remaining before halftime.
Cole Christensen added a man-up goal just 12 seconds into the second which was followed by a goal from Andy Lehr just 41 seconds later to make it 7-3 with 14:07 to play in the third.  Brad Tack, Brett Bird, Jacob Wayman, and Connor Saller would also score during the run.  Westminster even benefited from an own goal by Northern Colorado during the push.
The Griffins attempted 34 shots to just 28 by UNC.  Westminster put 23 of those shots on frame and forced the goalies from Northern Colorado into 12 saves.  Westminster also dominated the faceoff battle, winning 14 of the 19 faceoffs in the contest.  Both teams struggled in extra-man opportunities as Westminster went 2-of-11 and UNC was 1-of-5.
Josh Condas and Arthur finished with two goals apiece to lead the Griffins.  Condas added one assist for three points.  Dallin Hall had a team-best two assists while Lehr, Wayman, and Andrew Gordon each added one assist to their goal.  Dallas McLellan made six saves and allowed just five goals before turning things over to Chris Burckle between the pipes.
Garrett Luallen led UNC with two goals on nine shots.  The Bears put just 12 of their 28 shots on frame in the contest.
Westminster will return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host in-state rival Utah State on Dumke Field.
