MORAGA, Calif. – The sixth-ranked Westminster College men’s lacrosse team defeated No. 11 Saint Mary’s 10-3 on Tuesday evening in the first game played at the new home facility of St. Mary’s.
Westminster is now 4-0 on the year and for only the second time in school history. They have defeated three ranked teams during this start. St. Mary’s suffers its first loss of the campaign as they fall to 4-1.
Matt Hearn got the Griffins off to a fast start and he finished the game with four goals and two assists. Westminster outscored the Gaels 5-2 in the first half, including 4-0 in the opening quarter. Collin Madsen added two goals while Kevin Gee had two assists.
Marshall Serzen won 12-of-16 face offs. Chris Burckle had a stellar performance in the cage, making 14 saves with only three goals allowed. Jeff Peters led the Griffins with six ground balls and Kurt Fuhriman added five.
Westminster will complete the spring break road trip on Thursday when they face Dominican in San Rafael, Calif. The game has been moved up 30 minutes to begin at 3:30 p.m. PST.
