Salt Lake City – The No. 2 Westminster College Women’s lacrosse team (7-0) dominated the Colorado School of Mines (1-4) on Saturday afternoon at Westminsters’ Dumke Field, winning by the score of 16-3.
“It was great to have our first home game a victory.Â The girls have been working hard and were excited to play in front of their fans.Â Mines did a great job and never let up.Â Westminster played well together and spread out the stats,” said Westminster Head Coach Niki Harding.
Also contributing for the Griffins were sophomore Dechie Sumampong as she finished with three points off two goals and one assist. Kaicee Beal, Sage Johnson, Jillian Tesfazion, and Alexa Ferdig each tallied two goals. Erin Foslid and Lisa Webber each had one goal. Â Freshman goalkeeper Jasmin Alves finished the match with three saves, while junior Erin Foslid led the defense with six ground balls. Â Westminster held the advantage in shots (41-7) and ground balls (42-21).
Mines Stephanie Biagioti led with two goals, Brennan Malcomi with one, and Sarah Falkenstein with an assist. Goalkeeper Robin Brost made 11 saves on the night and recorded four ground balls.
Westminster controlled the game from the beginning and will hope to continue that momentum when they take on rival University of Utah (7-3) this Tuesday night at Dumke Field.
