Womens: Griffins Draw Oakland in WCLA Quarterfinals

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women’s lacrosse team received the No. 4 seed at the WCLA National Championships that begin on May 10 in Colorado Springs.  They will face fifth-seeded Oakland (Mich.) in the quarterfinals at 12:30 p.m.
Westminster won the RMWLL championship and earned an automatic berth into the national tournament. This marks the second straight year that Westminster has qualified for the National Championships. The Griffins are 16-5 overall this season and they have won four straight games.
Westminster and Oakland met earlier this season when the Griffins traveled to North Carolina for a tournament. Westminster won that earlier meeting, 11-9, in overtime. Chelsea Farrell led the Griffins with five goals in the game while also posting two assists.
Oakland finished the regular season with a 13-5 overall record. They went 5-0 in the WCLL to earn the invite to Colorado Springs. They head into the national tournament riding an eight-game winning streak.
The winner between Westminster and Oakland will face the winner of No. 1 Towson and No. 8 Stanford in the semi-finals.  The bottom of the bracket features No. 2 North Carolina facing No. 7 SMU and No. 3 Rhode Island playing No 6 Utah. The semi-finals will be played on May 11 with the championship game scheduled for 1 p.m. on May 12. Every game will be played at the El Pomar Sports Complex.
